Casting options

We offer a range of different manufacturing processes to produce anything from high-volume to one-off castings with different tolerances and skin finishes depending on your requirements. The team at Milson are here to help guide you through these different processes to ensure you get best value for your needs. We are here to help guide you through these different processes and ensure you get the very best parts.

Green sand casting

Most commonly used process due to its cost-efficiency. Reliable and adaptable solution that can be used to produce both ferrous (iron and steel) and non-ferrous (aluminum, brass, bronze) castings in high volume production runs through to large, one-off castings.

Shell casting

Also called shell molding. Uses a mold made from a thin shell of sand bound together by a thermosetting resin binder. Good method for precise dimensional accuracy and smooth surface finish. Ideal for medium-run production volumes in both ferrous and non-ferrous castings.

Die casting

Injects molten metal into a steel mold (a die or tool), either by gravity or under pressure. Produces complex and detailed metal parts with high dimensional accuracy and a smooth surface finish. Commonly used in the production of medium to high volume aluminum parts.

Investment casting

Precision casting where a wax pattern of the final part is coated with a ceramic shell; once hardened, the wax is melted out and molten metal is poured into the cavity. Produces highly detailed and complex parts with tight tolerances and excellent surface finishes.

Manufactuing forging

Forging

Forging shapes metals through applying pressure. The process is typically performed at elevated temperatures, although certain forging operations can also be conducted at room temperature. Forging enhances the mechanical properties of the metal, improving its strength, and providing a favorable grain structure to produce parts that require high reliability.

Material range

Our manufacturing processes are versatile and capable of handling a wide range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The common materials we produce are:

  • Cast iron
  • Ductile iron
  • ADI (austempered ductile iron)
  • White irons (Ni-hard and Hi-chrome)
  • Steels
  • Stainless steels
  • Aluminum
